How an Adult Sick Visit Works
An adult sick visit involves us reviewing a patient’s current condition, medical history, and other factors to help determine the most effective form of treatment for their condition. While many people will try to wait for the symptoms to go away with at-home care and avoid professional treatment, this is not going to be enough. The professional primary care at our health clinic can help to speed up the natural recovery process while providing relief to help make the symptoms more bearable.
The adult sick visit process can include:
- Reviewing Medical History
- Conducting an examination
- Diagnosis and Treatment
- Follow-Up Care
Reviewing Medical History
Before we begin the examination, we will need to gather information on the patient’s medical history, current condition, allergies, insurance, and other pertinent factors. We will have first-time patients fill out a “New Patient Information Form,” upon arrival. If we already have the patient’s information on record, we will ask if there are any updates since the previous visit.
While the patient does not need to schedule an appointment ahead of time, there may be a waiting period before meeting with our team. We will review this information during the examination.
Examination
The type of tests we conduct during the examination will depend on the patient’s symptoms and their current health. We will also address any questions or concerns the patient has during this visit. If the reason for the sick visit is to treat symptoms from an existing condition that are flaring up, we will go over past treatment options and consider how to proceed.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Once we diagnose the condition or source of the symptoms, we will customize a treatment plan for the patient’s needs. Healthline finds in the State of Care Report that 41 percent of the 1,329 participants in the study said they had been to an urgent care facility in the last year. Visiting an urgent care clinic can help provide patients with specific treatment the patient needs.
We will review the treatment plan, what it entails, and what the patient will need to do to keep on track for the process. The treatment may involve taking prescription medication, getting rest at home, and other factors.
Follow-Up Care
If the patient needs, they can visit us to follow-up with the treatment. We can ensure the treatment is working properly and make any changes, if necessary. The patient must follow the treatment plan as closely as possible.
