Urgent Care

5 Tips to Avoid Urgent Care for Outdoor Workers

Wondering how often an average urgent care center treats someone who works outside for a living? Quite often. Getting hurt on the job often requires immediate treatment, making urgent care services a popular option for outside workers who need fast and necessary medical treatment. The ability to simply walk into a medical center and request urgent care could not be any easier these days. The majority of centers are open every day and offer extended hours, which means when an outside worker is in need of care, all they have to do is walk in.

Staying away from urgent care

The following is a list of five tips that any outside worker should follow to help them avoid getting hurt, which in turn helps them avoid making a trip to an urgent care center or even their local emergency room.

Keep cool in summer heat

High temperatures can lead to a lot of heat-related problems, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The solution is for outside workers to take breaks often when working in the heat of the summer sun, drink plenty of water in order to replace their sweat, wear breathable clothing and set up fans for ventilation when available.

Keep warm in winter cold

Dressing in layers is recommended when working outside in the wintertime. Depending on how cold it is, wearing gloves, a warm hat, warm socks and even a face covering to ward off the cold is recommended

Wear appropriate shoes

Wearing the right type of shoes helps give outside workers a better grip when walking in or on all kinds of different terrain, like ice, snow, rocks and wet surfaces. Even if an outside worker is not required to wear a certain type of shoe, they should take the initiative to wear shoes that will protect them from potential harm.

Learn how to fall down safely

There is a way to fall down that minimizes the possibility of being hurt. As soon as someone feels like they are about to fall, they should let their body go limp, as this allows the body to naturally fall straight down. Keep the chin tucked in and place the arms over the head in order to protect the head from hitting the ground. Resist the temptation to break the fall with the hands.

Beware of poisonous plants

According to WebMD, up to 85 percent of Americans are allergic to poison ivy. An outside worker can be affected when they come into direct contact with poison ivy or by touching something else that has touched the plant. When someone who works outside experiences a moderate or extreme reaction, like a severe rash or blisters, urgent care services are often necessary.

Do you know where your local urgent care center is located?

If you work outside for a living, finding a local urgent care center is necessary. It is always better to know where one is located, just in case. The above tips should be helpful when it comes to your avoiding any of the many accidents that can happen when you are working outside. By following them, you will have a lower chance of being hurt while performing your job duties.
