4 Signs You Should Visit Urgent Care for Back Pain

There are few, if any, chronic injuries that are more painful than back pain. While the natural reaction is to try and tolerate the back pain for as long as possible with the hope that it begins to diminish, there are times when urgent care for back pain is required for the pain to be treated appropriately.

When to visit urgent care for back pain

There are times when back pain can only be treated at home with home remedies, such as stretching and proper rest. In more severe instances where the symptoms of back pain become unbearable, it is crucial to find the help needed as soon as possible to get the underlying cause under control.

Back pain that is due to an injury

It can be difficult to determine whether chronic back pain that is the result of an ongoing condition requires a trip to the urgent care clinic, but back pain caused by an injury should be treated with a sense of urgency, as a failure to do so can result in a serious long-term complication.

If the back pain is caused by a physical injury, such as falling off a ladder, it is vital to not hesitate making a trip to the urgent care clinic.

Causes numbness in one or both legs

Back pain that only affects the back is a concern in and of itself. However, back pain that begins to cause severe numbness in one or both legs needs to be followed by a trip to the urgent care clinic.

Back pain that causes numbness in the legs, in many cases, can be attributed to an instance of sciatica, which is easily treated by a medical professional. However, it’s crucial to not self-diagnose and consult with a physician instead.

Lasts for more than a week

Chronic back pain that lasts for more than a week without providing any relief needs to be followed with a trip to the urgent care clinic to determine the cause for the pain.

Ideally, it’s best to schedule a doctor’s appointment with a chiropractor or visit an urgent care clinic if the pain lasts for more than three days. In most cases, the pain level can be managed, and the underlying cause can be determined with ease after seeing a specialist.

Accompanied by a fever

In specific instances, back pain has been known to cause a fever. If an individual who suffers from back pain ever experiences a fever that accompanies the back pain, immediate medical attention is needed.

While they may be separate issues, it is crucial to verify the reason for both, as their existence could potentially a much more serious health risk. With the proper care and treatment, however, your symptoms should begin to improve.
